| During World War 2 and in the years following, many thousands of Australian Air Force pilots honed their skills on this home built trainer. Built in Victoria as a derivative of the famous American NA-16/AT-6/SNJ/Harvard training aircraft, the Wirraways eventually found themselves in combat in the Pacific due to a shortage of appropriate fighter aircraft. Being training aircraft and not fighters, the Wirraways were hopelessly outclassed but, nonetheless, soldiered on. One of these aircraft even succeeded at shooting down the infamous Japanese Zero fighter. Experience the wonderfully historic aircraft that so many young Australians trained in before going off to war. |
